Magazine Boxes!!!! FINALLY!

SO, I picked up these babies MONTHS AND MONTHS ago at my local Smith's.

I had been looking for magazine boxes to Mod Podge but they were all too dang expensive or cheap (Like made from cardboard cheap....definitley not going to hold up with Mod Podge.) Lucky me these babies were on sale for $5 a piece (Instead of the $20 regular price.) These suckers took me FOR-EV-ER to finish but I finally did it!! (At the request of my husband....too many unfinished craft projects lying around I guess!)

Finished and they turned out SO CUTE!

I picked paper that came coordinating in colors, so none of the boxes are the same. I opted not to label the boxes because once the words are on they aren't coming off and I don't want to re-cover these EVER. The down side to this project was that the paper is 12 inches tall, the boxes are 13 inches tall. So each one has a strip at the bottom to cover the box. Not noticable in the picture but I can tell at home. (I'm anal about this kind of thing.) For now they will do and hopefully my guests won't look too closely!

Wall Shelf

So I got this wall shelf at the last Nickel Auction in my neighborhood. Nobody wanted it, so it was 5 cents. I decided to give it a little face lift and put it in the baby's room.

Old:

New!

(Yeah the little animals make it cute, but notice the Mod Podged paper and new paint job.)

What I did:
1. Didn't bother sanding it because I just spray painted 3 coats of brown onto the existing wood.
2. Measured my paper for the top and Mod Podged it on.
3. Let it dry for a day before spraying it with Acrylic Spray.

SO EASY, and so cute!

Wall Box

So I was at the DI looking for crafts I could spice up. (And cheap baby toys that were still in good shape!) I picked up this ugly blue wall box for $1.50 and made it into something new for my baby's room!! It was surprisingly easy too!

Before (Sorry, you must suffer the gloss of my table cover, I was too lazy to move it.)

After!!
I got the paper at Heartland. Just a warning: Don't go in there if you don't want to spend money!! You'll want to buy the whole store!!

What I did:

1. Measure and cut all sides of paper.
2. Sand as much paint off as I could. (It was on there pretty thick too. I didn't get to the base wood but I wanted to at least get the glossy finish off so my paper would stick.)
3. Paint parts that are going to show. (I always paint the seams too, like where two pieces of paper will meet.) I also did 3 coats.
4. Mod Podge the paper to the inside of the box first, then 2 of the sides. Let it dry for 1 day then do the other 2 sides.
5. Let it all dry for another day before spraying with Acrylic Spray.

Snowman with Mod Podge

This, as well with the trees from a previous post, had been sitting in my garage for TWO years before I finally got to them!! I Mod Podged paper to the snowman to make him SO much cuter than just painting alone. He's one of those snowmen who have holes around the sides to poke lights through. Here's what I did:

1. Measure paper and cut to fit appropriate parts of snowman. (tricky on something this large!)

2. Paint the back of the snowman white. I usually paint around the front edges just a tad in case my paper doesn't cover a spot.

3. Mod Podge paper onto snowman one section at a time.

4. After everything has dried, spray with Acrylic Spray and let dry over night.

5. Poke holes through the apper from front of snowman to back. I used a screwdriver.

6. Push the lights through the back and plug it in!! Perfect for Christmas through winter!!

We had these boring plain green sparkly wreaths laying around so I decided to spice them up a bit. (My husband calls these his "Bachelor Wreaths".) You could do SO many things with these (Like wire multi-colored ornaments all over, that would be adorable!) I opted to use wooden words and ribbon for mine. I got each sparkly word for 40 cents at Michaels. Can't beat that!

1. Wire each word to the wreath with craft wire.
2. Make a big fancy bow and wire it to the wreath.

Easy as 1, 2!

Note: I KNOW, I KNOW, my bow looks kinda BAD. I watched a bow tutorial online and just didn't get it.....next time my maw is over I'll have her do it. For now, it stays!

My neighbor introduced me to this super cute fun advent calendar! My kids LOVED it, and it was CHEAP to make!!

1. Buy 12 (13 if you want XMas Day) stockings. (Target had each pair for $1!)
2. Make number tags to glue onto 24 clothes pins. (I downloaded a CUTE font from fontspace.com, then glued to colored paper, and homemade laminated them with packing tape.)
3. Cut out small pieces of ribbon to make bows to also glue to the clothes pins. (I used silver, red, and green.)
4. Glue the number tag and ribbon to the top of the clothes pin.
5. Decide where you want to hang you socks and cut your ribbon accordingly. (We hung ours over the fireplace.)
6. Fill each stocking with enough candy for each person in your home each day. Every night, we each had a treat and read a Christmas book until the big day!!

I also found a stuffed Santa at Michael's for $2 so every day we moved him to the next stocking. (Mostly for the 5 year old. Easier for him to see how close we were getting to Christmas.)

SO CUTE!!

By now you probably noticed, I REALLY like Mod Podge!! I've had this wooden tree sitting in my garage for 2 years courtesy of my not so crafty mom. Glad I didn't do anything to it before I discovered Mod Podge!!

1. Measure paper to desired shape. (This one was tricky because it is so TALL. I ended up taping 3 pieces of scrapbook paper together, then taping them TO the tree, then tracing the shape of the tree onto the paper.)
2. Paint the sides/back of the tree desired color. (3 coats.)
3. After the paint is dry, Mod Podge the paper to the tree. Be careful not to get Mod Podge onto the already painted places. It won't just fade it, it will look glossy and weird!
4. Let it dry a few hours, then I sprayed mine with glitter and Acrylic Spray.
5. Let it dry a day, then use a screw driver to poke holes for your lights. Make sure to poke from front to back so the paper goes to the back of the tree.
6. Plug your lights into the back of the tree (50 strand lights) and you have a super cute tree to deck your halls!!
